Fire
Hose Reels
Fire protection requirements are specified by Australian
Standards (AS), and the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
Compliance with these requirements is extremely important.
All employers are required to provide a safe workplace.
Fire Hose Reels, where installed, are a valuable fire fighting
aid. Fire Hose Reels have 36 metres of hose, which should
allow all sections of the building to be accessed. Larger
buildings require multiple Fire Hose Reels to be installed.
Fire Hose Reels operate at mains pressure, or are sometimes
boosted by a pump. As water is the extinguishing medium,
Fire Hose Reels are suitable for Class A fires. Water should
never be used to extinguisher a fire where the risk of electrocution
from live electrical equipment is a possibility.
In situations where significant Class B flammable liquid
risks are present, a foam inducing device can be fitted
to the Fire Hose Reel to provide effective fire and fume
suppression.
Fire Hose Reels must be fitted with an ‘interlock’ device
which ensures that the nozzle cannot be unlocked without
first pressurizing the hose with water.
Australian Standards AS1851-2005 requires that all fire
protection equipment is inspected and maintained as detailed
in the relevant schedule, (often six monthly). FIRE STOP
can automatically provide this service for you, to ensure
your continued compliance. On the basis of these required
inspections, an Annual Fire Safety Statement can be provided.

It is essential that your site complies, and that your fire protection equipment
is maintained and ready for any emergency.CALL FIRE STOP NOW ON 6681 6000
